Virtual Cat Games for Kids

If your child has been asking for a pet cat but now's not the best time for a new pet, try out a virtual cat instead. These mess-free, low-maintenance companions will help teach your child about the responsibility of owning a pet. Many different varieties of virtual cats are available via video game systems, the Internet and other portable toys, so choose one that works best for you and your family.
  1. 101 Kitty Pets

    • This game, designed for Macintosh systems, features 101 kittens; the player may adopt all the cats. The virtual cats can be taught tricks like sitting and pouncing, and they respond to a system of praise and rewards. The player may groom the cats and play with the feline companions, as well as feed and pamper them. Entering the cats into shows allows the player to gain virtual money that allows for the purchase of upgrades, like new furniture and toys for the cat. Players may also buy clothing to dress the cats in virtual outfits.

    Catz

    • Several different versions of this game, designed for Windows systems, are available. Players may choose from 10 different breeds of cat companions, and they may adopt as many cats as they wish. However, the cats must be cared for properly or they may run away. The newer versions of this game include voice recognition features, so the cats will respond to commands from the player after he has trained them to perform different tricks. Players may dress the cats up in different outfits and place them in different settings, and they may also take virtual photos of the dress-up scenarios to save on the computer. The player may also breed the cats or offer them a variety of toys to play with.

    Purr Pals

    • This game is designed for Nintendo DS and allows you to choose from 40 different kinds of kittens, each with its own personality. Purr Pals requires the player to care for and train the adopted cat by feeding it, playing with it and cleaning it. You can participate in a variety of mini-games, and purchase items for the cat. Eventually the cat will be able to recognize voice commands that the player gives out. The player may adopt up to five cats, but she must care for all the cats' needs or there will be point-deduction penalties.
