Archery Games for Kids

Whether kids need to practice their bow skills or simply want to pretend to fire arrows at targets, games based on archery are available both for fun and to help with the teaching of archery in real-life situations. Online archery games are typically available for free through gaming websites, and are played through a user's web browser.
  1. Distance Competition

    • This is a simple game for kids to play while learning the sport of archery. A large area is needed for play--Randall Grayson, writing in Camping Magazine, suggests using the equivalent of between 200 and 700 feet of space--which the game organizer will need to make sure is free of any bystanders or buildings beforehand. The archers stand in a line, equipped with a bow and a few arrows. On the instruction of the game organizer, the kids all fire their bows at the same time, with the aim of the game being to launch an arrow as far as possible.

After all of the shots have been shot, the game organizer judges which child has won. Arrows can be marked with feathers, a pattern or paint to prevent confusion when identifying each player's shots.

    Arrow Golf

    • This archery game engages kids by combining shooting practice with sport. The game organizer should set up a playing area beforehand by arranging nine sealed trash bags, which act as golf holes for this game. These bags can be placed at varying distances away from each other, but as Grayson recommends, each should be no more than 1,000 feet away from another. The archers then follow the course as players do in golf, taking turns to fire at each bag. Players record how many arrows it takes to hit each target, and after all nine targets have been attempted, the player with the least number of shots overall is declared winner.

    Balloon Hunter

    • This 2D online game puts players in the role of an archer, tasked with popping as many balloons as possible. The balloons appear from the four barrels on the left side of the screen; as each emerges, the player must fire an arrow into it to score points. To shoot, the player holds the Space bar on the keyboard to build power, as indicated by the bar in the bottom right-hand corner of the screen. Releasing the Space bar fires the arrow. The keyboard's directional buttons allow the player to adjust her aim, while the player must also take into account the wind when firing a shot. Hitting a balloon scores points; different color balloons give different amounts of points when hit.

    Chicken Rampage

    • This 2D online game challenges players to shoot chickens before the farmyard animals reach him. The mouse is used to aim the bow, while the player clicks the left mouse button to fire an arrow. The power of the shot and the strength of the wind also factor into how successful each shot is; these are indicated by the numbers at the top of the game screen. Killing all of the chickens on a level leads to the next stage.
