Games to Play With 3-Year-Olds

For parents interested in introducing young children to video games, the Entertainment Software Ratings Board (ESRB) designates specific games with the "EC" rating. Games with the EC or "Early Childhood" rating contain themes and content considered appropriate for children 3 years old and above. EC-rated games include learning titles and games based on popular children's television programs.
  1. Sesame Street: Cookie's Counting Carnival

    • Published by Warner Bros. Interactive for the Nintendo DS handheld, "Sesame Street: Cookie's Counting Carnival" is an educational title based on the "Sesame Street" children's program. Cookie Monster and Big Bird from the television program join players for a number of carnival-based games focused on teaching number skills and basic shape recognition. Using audio directions to teach players, the game does not require reading skills.

    Did It Myself ABC123

    • Released by Powerhead Games for the Nintendo DSi, "Did It Myself ABC123" is a downloadable title for the Nintendo handheld system. Accessible through the DSi Store, the game features a collection of minigames focused on music, numbers and letters. Players are encouraged to touch pictures on the touch screen, with accompanying audio featuring voice clips and music.

    JumpStart Pet Rescue

    • Published by Knowledge Adventure for the Nintendo Wii, "JumpStart Pet Rescue" features a series of stories encouraging children to search for missing animals while completing learning games and activities. Games included teach reading, memory and creative thinking, among other skills. Children can care for and train the animals they rescue during gameplay.
