Madden NFL 11 simulates a regular football game in which the player sets up and executes plays or players can choose to have their plays automatically selected and executed. Real-life characteristics of the players and the teams' real-life history in the NFL influences game play. Players can open their playbook any time during the game to review. Kids can alter an existing playbook by adding and removing plays or creating original plays.
ESPN NFL 2K5
- ESPN NFL 2K5 is an inexpensive game that has many of the same features of the more expensive NFL video games. The IGN website says that ESPN NFL 2K5 has realistic game play action, detailed graphics and one-on-one action. The player is in control of all the action on the field. When plays are executed, the graphics are good enough to give the player the illusion that they are watching a real life game on television. The game is called by realistic sports broadcasters. The game also features a break-away between plays and games in which the player can interact with ESPN's SportsCenter. ESPN NFL 2K5 features practice, tournament and quick game options.
NFL Tour
- NFL Tour incorporates computer graphics and live-action video footage combined with play-by-play commentary for a complete NFL video gaming experience. The commentary during the game play is entertaining and humorous. According to the Ars Technica website, the commentator will tease the player about play selections and gaming skill. The player may select from any number of real-life teams and players, but the gamer plays with the team as a newcomer with something to prove. The player begins by completing a series of challenging games that are designed to improve the character's skills and earn an NFL contract to play with a professional team. During game play as an NFL player, the gamer learns how to dodge and break tackles, intercept a pass and tackle opposing players. NFL Tour has decent graphics that are reminiscent of the old arcade style games.
