Telephone
Play this game with four or more children. Have the children sit around in a big circle. Whisper a message to the first child, who then tells the child next to him the same message you whispered to him. That next child passes that message onto her neighbor and so on until they get to the last child. The last child stands up and tells everyone the message. The first child who originally told the message says whether the message is exactly the same as the original message. If the last child gets it right, she wins. If the last child gets it wrong, then the first child wins. The message sometimes is a completely different message than the original one.
Operator
One variation of Telephone is called Operator. Play the game the same way as the Telephone game, but while passing the message from one child to the next, if a child wants to have the message repeated once when hearing it, the child says "Operator."
Pass It On
Older kids sometimes call the game Pass It On. You can play this game in the classroom to teach students how they must be careful when they pass on secrets and how rumors can become very misconstrued when they receive the message indirectly from one person to another. You can get more than one class to participate and the message is spread throughout lunch time. Then gather all the kids together and have the last child say the message she received. Then the first child who thought of the message stands up and says what the original message was.
