Sunday School Games for Toddlers

Toddlers are naturally curious about a great many things. Religion is no exception. While preschoolers may have short attention spans, they will participate in activities that interest them. By playing some fun games in Sunday School, toddlers can learn concepts about the Bible and be more active in wanting to learn more about religion.
  1. Freeze

    • During the game of Freeze, a Sunday School teacher plays some religious music. While the music plays, toddlers can dance any particular way they choose. However, when the music suddenly stops, the preschoolers must "freeze" in whatever pose they are in at that time. Toddlers will have a laugh looking around the room and seeing all the silly poses.

    Noah's Ark Games

    • The story of Noah's ark lends itself to some games that preschoolers can engage in. Games about Noah's ark help to teach toddlers about obedience and protection.

Instead of Simon Says, kids can play Noah Says. During the game, commands can be animal related. For instance, commands can be "Noah says quack like a duck" or "Noah says fly like a dove." Like in Simon Says, if just a command is given without the name preceding it, a person is eliminated. The last child left is the winner.

Another Noah's ark game kids can play is Noah's Mixed-Up Animals. This game requires various stuffed or plastic toy animals and a large box to serve as the ark. The instructor then spreads all the animals on the floor, and the preschoolers must find all the matching animals and put them in the box.

A Sunday School instructor can have his preschool students play with clay or Play-Doh to make animals that appeared on the ark. Students can even try their hand at making an ark as well.

    Does It Please the Lord?

    • Does It Please the Lord? is played like Mother May I? During the game, children line up against a wall or along the same line. The goal of the game is for children to make it across the room or reach an established finish line. During the game, toddlers can take Baby Moses steps for small steps, Goliath steps for giant steps and shepherd steps for regular steps. After the Sunday School teacher gives instructions on how a toddler may walk, the preschooler must respond, "Does it please the Lord?" After the instructor says yes, the toddler may then take the appropriate steps.
