Fashion Design Challenge
This game is a great way to get your child's creative juices flowing, and there are several different approaches you could take. For younger children, you may just want to set up decorating stations for simple items of clothing like plain hats or T-shirts. The materials you provide for decoration could be any number of things including paint, embellishments like pom-poms, sequins, rhinestones or glitter. But be aware that younger children may need assistance using or attaching certain items. You may want to challenge older children a bit more by giving them unusual items or materials to work with to create a one-of-a-kind garment in a certain amount of time. Have the children display their finished pieces and vote on which they think is the best.
Runway Relay
This game highlights the stressful job of being a catwalk model who has been selected to show more than one look in a runway show. Split the children into two teams and give each one a box or suitcase filled with slightly over-sized clothing items that create a complete outfit. For instance, you may want to include pants, a T-shirt, a sweater or jacket, jewelry, a hat, belt, gloves and shoes. Make sure that each team has the same amount and type of items to wear. When you signal to start, the first child should open the suitcase and put on all the items over his or her clothing as fast as possible. Then he or she should run to the opposite side of the room, around a chair or marker, and then run back to his or her team. The child should remove the clothing items and place them back in the suitcase, and the next child in line should repeat the process. The team that finishes first wins the game.
Fashion Show
This game is good for teaching kids about all the hard work that goes into runway shows. Help the children with their makeup, hair and clothing before the simulated runway show. Let each child take a turn as a model, designer, presenter, helper and photographer. Helpers will make sure the models are organized, that their hair, makeup and clothing are done properly, and that each model knows when and how to walk down the runway. The presenter will announce who the model is and what she is wearing, while the model struts her best walk down the runway. The designer will smile, wave and take a bow, and say a few words about the collection when the show is complete. Meanwhile, the photographer will snap photos during the show from the audience area to capture the whole event.
