Spring Gym Games

When the spring season rolls around, you may see your gym students staring longingly out of the window at the trees and flowers outside. Help quell their desires to go outside by bringing the spring season inside the gymnasium with some spring-themed gym games sure to have the students enjoying themselves while they exercise.
  1. Queen Bee

    • If you want a high-energy running game with a spring theme, try this game from the website Work Notes. Pick one player from the group to portray the Queen Bee. She stands in the middle of the play area. All other players head to one side of the room. Tell the players the Queen Bee wants her worker bees to come back to the hive, but the worker bees want to continue playing. Therefore, the worker bees avoid the Queen Bee during the game. When the Queen Bee loudly starts buzzing, the worker bees race to the other side of the room as they avoid getting tagged by the Queen. When a worker bee gets tagged, he loses his place in the game. The game ends when only one player, who is the winner, remains.

    Hungry Mr. Fox

    • A perfect spring gym game for younger students suggested by the website Kid's Health, is Hungry Mr. Fox. Begin by selecting one player out of the group to play Mr. Fox. Turn Mr. Fox around to face the wall at one side of the room and have the rest of the players stand at the opposite side. Tell the players they are mischievous bunnies who like to taunt Mr. Fox. When they feel ready, the bunnies ask Mr. Fox "What time is it?" Mr. Fox replies back with a statement such as "It's time to hop." The bunnies all make their way toward Mr. Fox while hopping. At a random moment, Mr. Fox turns around to face them, prompting them to stop. Mr. Fox then turns back and the process continues. Once the bunnies make it all the way to Mr. Fox, Mr. Fox chases them back to their side of the room. The game then begins again with a new Mr. Fox.

    Split the Pea Pods

    • For another spring-themed game sure to get your students in shape, play this one, from the website Fun and Games. Pick one player out of the group to play "It." Have the rest of the players become Peas in a Pod, and tell them all to pick a partner to holds hands with. The person playing "It" counts down the seconds from 10. Once the time elapses, he chases the Peas in a Pod, trying to tag either player in each pair to eliminate them from the game. The last remaining pea pod pair wins the game.
