Fun Ball Games

Parents and kids alike can compete in fun ball games that challenge their skills as well as agility. An outdoor party or an impromptu gathering is the perfect occasion for a rousing ball game. With several ball games to choose from, pit your guests against each other to win.
  1. Bash Ball

    • Bash ball requires a minimum of eight players to play this game and a medium-sized soft rubber ball. Seven of the players form a half circle. The sides of the feet of each player must touch the feet of the player on both his right and left side. There must be enough room between each player's legs for the ball to pass easily. Players cannot move their feet or break foot contact with the other players. The remaining player, the "thrower," goes first and has three chances to throw the ball successfully through one of the player's legs. The players can bend at the waist and use their hands to block the opening to their legs. If the first player successfully gets the ball through another player's legs, that player is "out." He must remain in the circle with his legs still in place, but he folds his arms to show that he is out. The first player chooses which player he wants to switch places with. That player now has a turn to get the ball through another player's legs. The game goes on until only two players remain---one inside the half circle and a thrower. The thrower has three chances to get his ball through. If he fails, he switches places with his opponent who also has three chances to knock him out. The game goes on until one of them gets the ball through.

    Keep Away

    • Keep Away requires a minimum of eight players. Players form a circle with one player in the middle. The players forming the circle must throw a soccer ball to anyone in the circle and keep it away from the player in the middle. The player in the middle is free to move within the circle and try to catch the ball as players pass it. If she catches the ball, the player that threw it is out. She switches places with a player from the circle. That player is now in the middle. The game goes on until two players remain. Then, the losing team members form a circle around the two remaining players and pass the ball between players. The first of the two remaining players to intercept the ball wins the game.

    Loony Bowling

    • You need a minimum of two players to play this game. Line up a series of odd objects like bowling pins on your lawn. Some of the objects might include empty cans, plastic jugs or milk cartons. Players must stand at least 3 feet away from the pins. Each player has two turns to knock the pins down by rolling tennis balls across the grass. Each fallen pin counts as 5 points. Stand up the pins for each player. Players must play three rounds. The player with the most points wins.
