Brush, Brush, Paint
Form the group of girls in a circle on the ground. Place an easel with a canvas and filled paint jars with brushes at the center of the circle. Just as you would play Duck, Duck, Goose, one girl moves around the circle tapping each girl's head, saying "Brush" on each tap. The leader decides as she moves around the circle who she will tap and say "Paint." When the leader says "Paint," the selected girl moves to the easel and quickly paints whatever comes to mind for approximately 30 seconds. She then becomes the leader. She continues the game by tapping each girl's head saying "Brush" and then picking a new girl to "Paint." The game continues until everyone has painted, creating a shared masterpiece.
Splatter Dance
Prepare spray bottles with a solution of water and a few squirts of washable paints. Place white t-shirts on a clothesline outside and squirt bottles on the ground in front of them. Have one t-shirt for each girl. Prepare fast-paced music to play during this game. Have all the girls line up in front of the clothesline. When the music starts, each girl squirts the t-shirt in front of them. When the music stops they put the bottles down. Each time the music stops they move to a new shirt and squirt that shirt with a spray bottle. The game continues until each girl has painted each shirt.
Rainy Paints
Rainy days work best for this game. Prepare an indoor work surface with watercolors, water and brushes. Have the girls paint a piece of watercolor paper with whatever design they choose. The only direction given is that the paper must be filled entirely with paint. If it is raining, place the girls in a line at the door. When you give the word, the girls run outside and place their paintings in the rain for a brief minute. The rain will cause the colors to blend. They run inside once the rain has touched their paintings and place them on the table until dry. If it is not raining, prepare a large bucket with sponges for each girl. Place their paintings on an old sheet in the yard. When you say "Go," each girl grabs a sponge and squeezes the excess water into the bucket. The girls then squeeze the sponges lightly over their paintings. They should hold the sponges high over their heads to squeeze; this will produce a rain effect. The colors will blend and the paintings can be left in the sun to dry.
Consider laminating each picture when dry to use as a placemat.
