Stay The Distance
"Stay the Distance" combines the thrill of racing horses with the technique and finesse of jumping hedges. Girls choose a horse from a selection of six, each with different strengths and weaknesses. Once on the track, players race around the track two times while jumping hedges and managing horse energy and whip allotment. The game recommends that a player save most of the horse's energy for a frantic finish, but the player ultimately decides when and how much to push her steed. Controls are simple: left and right arrow keys steer her horse, up and down arrow keys speed up or slow down her horse, the "Space" bar jumps her horse and "Control" key whips her horse.
Jorja And Jigsaw Jump Off
"Jorja and Jigsaw Jump Off" is all about the jump. Split into nine challenging levels, the player is only tasked with steering her horse in front of oncoming jumps with the directional keys and pressing the "Space" bar to jump at the right time. Each time the player completes a jump, her horse will gallop faster, making the last few jumps of each level surprisingly challenging to navigate. If the player achieves a requisite score for each level, the next level will unlock and become open for play. When she fails a level or completes the game, her score is displayed on the screen for bragging rights. Points are deducted for botched jumps or for missing them entirely.
Ride A Horse
"Ride a Horse" is a German take on horse jumping. While the directions are in German, American girls won't have any problem picking up the controls and grasping simple game concepts. Players ride the horse in first-person view down a long play field, maneuvering the horse left and right as well as faster and slower--all with the directional keys. The player is tasked with jumping as many obstacles as possible. After reaching the end of the course, her score is displayed with several stats. The unique camera perspective and timing challenge make "Ride a Horse" a worthy game.
