School Games for Girls

It can be fun to divide a classroom into boys and girls. Children tend to relate differently to one another depending on whether or not the activity is coed. Separating genders in the classroom gives students a chance to learn in a different kind of environment. These games are designed for girls ages 8 to 12.
  1. Word Find

    • This game helps girls develop spelling skills while having fun. Create a word find by going to a website such as armoredpenguin.com. Use words that are familiar to young girls and will be interesting for them to find, such as: hairbrush, makeup, toothbrush, jeans, toothpaste, sweater, boots, swimsuit, polish, mirror, headband, barrette, necklace, earrings, bracelet, belt, shoes, socks, leggings, skirt, jacket, coat, scarf and hat. Set a time limit for the word find, based on how many words you provide in the puzzle. The first girl to find all the words wins.

    Headband Toss

    • This game develops basic arithmetic skills and requires three regular headbands and a handmade game board. To make the game board, get a large piece of paper, about 5 by 5 feet, and divide it into 10 equal squares using tape or a marker. Put one number in each square up to the number 10. The teacher reads a math equation for each girls turn such as: "16 minus 10 equals..." or "two times five equals..." The girls toss a headband into the square with the number that answers the equation. Each girl gets three turns. Score is kept for each girl by giving one point for every correct answer. The girl with the most points at the end wins.

    Cell Phone

    • The cell phone game focuses on developing listening skills. Divide the girls into two teams and ask each girl to write a sentences about something they learned that day on a piece of paper. Collect the papers, keeping each team&'s papers separate. Put the teams in two lines and give the first girl in each line a paper from the other team. Ask them to read their paper and then take them back. The girls are allowed to look only once at the sentence. The girls whisper what they read in the ear of the girl next in line. That girl then repeats what she heard in the ear of the girl behind her. This goes on until the last girl has been told the secret and repeats what she heard out loud. The teacher reads the original paper to determine if the sentence made it to the end of the line correctly. After each turn, the leader goes to the back of the line. The team that gets the most words correct each time wins a point. The team with the most points wins.
