Hopscotch
Kids can play hopscotch indoors or outside. Hopscotch boards are composed of squares that provide spaces to either jump so that one foot lands in each square or hop so that you land on only one square. The spaces on the hopscotch board indicate how you should land. You can play the game with two or more players. Begin the game by throwing a small object on the first square; the player must hop around it and complete jumping and hopping on the remaining squares depending on whether the squares are side by side or by themselves. When the player reaches the end of the board, she turns around and hops back toward the first square. Then she must pick up the object without losing balance or falling. The next player repeats the process. The first player to successfully hop around the board and pick up the object from each square wins the game. Hopscotch improves agility, coordination and balance.
Hit the Lines
Kids can play this game in a gym that has different colored lines on the floor. You can also create lines using different colors of tape in a large room. Try putting a red line at one end of the room, a blue line at the other end of the room and a piece of traditional colored masking tape across the center of the room. Players position themselves on one side of the room away from the lines. An instructor or caller yells out a line color and everyone must run to that line. The last person to reach the line is eliminated. The game proceeds with different lines called until one player is left.
Chip Toss
Place paper plates on the floor in rows so there are five rows with four plates in each row. Give each player 10 poker chips in a different color. On the bottom of each plate should be written a location in the room and each location should contain a small object, for example, paper clips, colored gravel, candy or other small items players can collect. In turn, each player throws a chip on a plate and goes to the location on it. Paper plates remain on the floor even after chips successfully land on them. As the game progresses, players may try for particular plates. The first player to collect all five objects wins the game.
