Karate Games for Girls

Some people consider karate to be a boys’ sport, but girls enjoy karate, too. More and more girls are taking karate classes and excelling at the sport. Karate-theme party games, such as Karate Chop Piñata and Balsa Board Breaking are both challenging and enjoyable and will also help improve balance and agility.
  1. Karate Chop Piñata

    • Karate Chop Piñata is a fun and exciting game for a girl’s birthday party. Hang a karate-theme piñata in an open area such as a back yard. Piñatas with ninjas are available at many party stores, or you can make your own. Girls who take lessons may dress in their karate uniforms for the game. Instead of a bat or a stick, the girls take turns using a side kick against the piñata. Hang the piñata across a tree limb so that it can be lowered or raised depending on the height and skill of the girl who will be kicking. The girls can line up and take turns kicking the piñata. The girl who breaks it open with her side kick wins a prize.

    Balsa Board Breaking

    • Use thin sheets of balsa wood for model building for this game. Balsa wood can be acquired at hobby stores everywhere. The girls draw straws to determine the order in which they will break the boards. The girl with the shortest straw goes first, the next longest straw goes second and the girl with the longest straw takes her turn last. An adult holds up one sheet of balsa wood and the first girl must karate chop the balsa wood and break it. The next girl takes her turn with a new piece of wood. The girls should be able to easily break through one thin sheet of balsa wood. Next, the girls take turns breaking two thin sheets of balsa wood. Each girl gets only one try to break the wood. The girl who breaks the most sheets of balsa wood is the winner of the game. For younger girls, parents can use slices of Styrofoam or foam food trays painted to look like pieces of wood.

    Karate Gummy Relay Race

    • The martial arts require speed, balance and agility to perform the various poses and moves. Karate Gummy Relay Race is engaging and will help girls develop the skills necessary to be good at karate. Set up an obstacle course in the back yard that will serve as the race course. A long tire course, balance beams made from boards or any stable, safe obstacle will work. Divide the girls into teams or draw straws to assign girls to teams. Short straws will be on one team and long straws on the other team. Give the first girl in each team chop sticks. She must pick up a gummy candy like bears or gummy worms and run the obstacle course then return to the next girl in line. She will hand off her chopsticks with the gummy candy and the next girl races through the obstacle course. If a girl drops her gummy candy, she must pick it up with the chopsticks before she can continue the race. The first team to complete the entire course without dropping their gummy candy wins the race.
