Homemade Backyard Games

If you're having a barbecue, birthday party or just want to keep children and visitors entertained during warm weather, there are lots of ways to turn your backyard into an outdoor entertainment center. Scour the garage, attic and old toy box for equipment.

Instructions

  1. Water Balloon Catch

    • 1

Get wet on a hot summer's day by catching water balloons. Fill balloons with water and tie shut.

    • 2

Cut the bottom off an empty gallon-size water or milk jug.

    • 3

Hold the handle of the milk jug with the cut end up and catch the balloon in the jug. When the balloon breaks, and many will, the water splashes up and out as well as down.

    Goofy Golf

    • 4

Don't pay, stand in line or be rushed through the course when you create your own goofy golf course in your backyard.

    • 5

Use your natural terrain, rocks and trees to come up with goofy and difficult shots.

    • 6

Add a water hazard by turning on the sprinkler for one of the holes.

    • 7

Add a towel that almost reaches the ground but flaps in the breeze for another hole.

    • 8

Tape sand-filled soda pop cans to the ends of broomsticks for the clubs. Use a whiffle golf ball instead of a solid one.

    Obstacle Course

    • 9

Look in the garage for old toys and equipment to use. For example: hula hoops held up by U-shaped pins, or by stakes, that have to be crawled through.

    • 10

Hop through stacks of old tires. Hurdle over hockey sticks placed on benches. Duck under tennis court netting that's been attached to garden stakes.

    • 11

Use a wheelbarrow to transport a sack of potatoes from one designated spot to another.

    • 12

Appoint teams and see which completes the course the fastest.
