Competition Games for Girls

Girls can learn important characteristics to embrace by discovering the value of competition. Being competitive can help girls get through college and try for promotions when they start to work. It is also an ideal trait that some people look for in a partner, which means it could help when they are old enough to date. Girls can integrate competition games into their lives through different areas of interest.
  1. Athletic Games

    • Athletic games are an ideal way for girls to learn the importance of staying in shape. They can arrange a game to see who can sprint faster. They can begin by gathering a group of girls who like staying fit. Someone should create a stop mark that is not too far away; sprinting is a strenuous activity that should be done in short bursts. Everyone runs as fast as they can to the finish line. The person who runs the quickest could get some kind of prize, such as athletic gear, or maybe a stop watch.

    Academic Games

    • Teen girls can each write a paragraph of research on the history of competition for girls and women. For instance, ancient Greek girls knew how to juggle, although they did not engage in athletic competition. Each girl can read her paragraph aloud, and a neutral third party can rate her work. The neutral third party, perhaps a mom or teacher, tallies up points on a piece of paper. Each person gets points for creativity, ambition, and presentation skills. The girl with the most interesting, well-written paragraph and presentation can win a prize; perhaps a book about women in history.

A way for college girls to engage in competition is to take part in on-campus competitions. University of Illinois, for instance, has a competition for teams of college women to create computer games geared towards teens and pre-teens. The winner takes home $2,000 for herself; $500 is donated to her college department.

    Fun Games

    • Teen girls can play dress up and guess which famous person each decided to portray. For instance, one girl might pair bell bottom jeans with a flowery shirt and large sunglasses to dress as singer Janis Joplin. Girls could split into 2 groups and compete to see who makes the most correct guesses. They can ask questions of the other girls, which can only be answered "Yes," or "No." The team of girls that makes the most correct guesses could win a fashion accessory, perhaps hair ribbons or nail polish.
