Winter Games for Youth

Winter can be a wonderful fun time for children. Snowfall, cold temperatures and winter breaks from school are a perfect formula for family fun. There are several games that they can play to take advantage of the season. Some games require several people and others only need a few, so the children can invite as many friends as they want.
  1. Snow Football

    • This winter rendition of the popular game of touch football is fun for children of all ages. Use a spray bottle filled with a colorful liquid to mark the game field in the snow. One end of the field is the north pole and the other end is the south pole. The goal is for one team to make a touchdown in the other team's pole by running and passing the ball. If a person runs out of bounds or is tagged by the opposite team, the play stops.

    Hat Trick

    • One of the oldest winter traditions is the building of a snowman but there is no reason why Frosty can't also serve as a game area. Using an old hat, you and some friends can play a winter rendition of horseshoes. Everyone takes turns throwing the hat at the snowman to see if they can make it land on his head.

    Tug-Of-War

    • One of the funnest parts of snow is its inherent slipperiness. Have the children begin by stamping down a strip of snow until it is packed down tight. Give them a large length of rope that they can use for the tug-of-war and the first team to pull the other team across the marked midsection of the path wins the game.
