Faux Snow Snowball Fight
The holidays may be a slightly frustrating time for young people in warmer climates--without the opportunity to build snowmen and snow forts or even engage in a snowball fight, they may feel like they are missing out on the season's magic. By creating your own snowballs, though, they can experience some of the fun. Start with a pair of white pantyhose and cut them into two legs. Dump 8 ounces of white flour into a leg, then tie two knots about a quarter of an inch apart. Repeat this process until the leg is full--you can then cut between the knots for perfectly tied-off faux snowballs. Make more than enough for everyone to use and divide the players into teams, or simply allow for a free-for-all snowball fight. If the weather is warm enough, help everyone clean off extra flour at the end by holding a water balloon fight.
Sneaky Snowman
This low-key game is fun not only for kids, but also adults who need to stay entertained at a holiday party. Cut out a colorful snowman using card stock--he should be about five inches tall. Attach a loop of high-quality tape to the back of the snowman and give him to a young partygoer. His job, then, is to attach the snowman to the back of an unsuspecting partygoer without her noticing. When the partygoer catches on--and she almost always will--she must then stick the snowman on another person. This game can last as long as you want.
Stuffed Santa
This game is ideal for large groups of young people. Divide everyone into teams of no more than four people, one of whom is “Santa.” The person playing Santa puts on an extra large pair of sweatpants with an extra large sweatshirt--they should be loose and hanging off his body. Ballons are place in the center of the room. When the game begins, each team must try to stuff Santa's clothing with as many balloons as they can. When the game is over, whichever team has filled Santa's outfit with the most balloons wins.
