Mummy Games for Kids

Spooky, mysterious mummies hold a special interest for many children. If you are planning a Halloween party or if you just want to keep young Egyptologists entertained on a rainy day, put together a mummy-themed game using crepe paper or toilet tissue in place of linen wrappings.
  1. Mummy Wrap Game

    • Divide the children into at least two teams of two or three players. Give each team one roll of toilet tissue or white crepe paper. One player from each team volunteers to be the "mummy". At a signal, his teammates work to completely wrap the mummy with crepe paper or toilet tissue from the neck down. The wrappers must not wrap the head, but they can wrap the arms outside the torso wrappings. Once the mummy is fully wrapped in the entire roll of paper, he must hold his arms at his sides and hop toward a predetermined finish line. Do not place the finish line too far away--the mummy must not rip his wrapping as he hops. The first team whose mummy crosses the finish line with the wrapping intact is the winner.

    Dizzy Mummy Challenge

    • In this race-against-the-clock activity, the mummy must wrap herself. Give the player a roll of toilet tissue or crepe paper. She should hold one end of the tissue in one hand while you hold the roll. Give the player 60 seconds to wrap her body with the entire roll of toilet tissue by spinning in a circle. She is disqualified if she tears the paper as she wraps.

    A Gift from Mummy

    • Ahead of game time, tape a small prize such as a piece of wrapped candy or a miniature toy to the end of a roll of toilet tissue. Wind tissue around the prize to wrap it well, then tape another prize to the tissue and wrap it up. Continue taping and wrapping prizes until you&'ve used the entire roll and have wrapped about 10 prizes. Sit players in a circle. The first player unravels the roll, wrapping the tissue around a body part of his or her choice such as a leg, arm or head, until he uncovers a prize. When he retrieves the prize, the player tears the tissue and gives the roll to the next child. Continue until the children claim all the prizes.
