Design Girls
The website Design Girls lets you design your own clothes from scratch, yet doesn't require graphic design or drawing skills. Instead, it allows you to design by selecting styles, colors and details for pieces of clothing. You start by picking an article of clothing you want to design, such as a t-shirt. Then you decide what type of sleeves you want, such as short, long, cap sleeves or princess sleeves, along with a type of neckline. Once you select a style, you choose a color and a trim. The options for trim are rich and include sequins, leopard print, rhinestones and flowers. Once your article of clothing is complete, you can design a matching skirt or pants. If you're happy with your designs, you can purchase the clothes with a credit card. The company will create your items and ship them to you.
Fashion Design Kits
Fashion design kits help you build the sketching skills you need for fashion design. Each kit comes with fashion design templates, so you can trace the outfits perfectly before you color in the patterns and textures you desire. Ideally, this kit helps you develop your drawing hand; eventually, you won't need to trace patterns and designs. Each kit comes stocked with colored pencils, rubbing plates and sheets of strong drawing paper. Companies that make such kits are Hearthsong and Back to Basics.
I-Dress Up
The games at I Dress Up treat players as if they are already successful fashion designers who are putting together a fashion show. During the game, you choose a model; each model represents a particular designer, such as Armani or Victoria's Secret. Once you select your model, you are able to change everything about her, from her skin color to her hair color to her makeup. Design an outfit for her to wear at the fashion show. Since each model represents a famous designer, the clothes you pick out are indicative of that designer's style. However, the final outfit you create is original, as you've selected everything about the model's appearance and ensemble. At the end, you see a shot of your model on the runway in the ensemble you've created for her.
