Mannequin Play
Using a mannequin bust to practice makeup application is a good way to let little girls play without making a mess on their own faces. Mannequin busts have a plastic face with eyelids, cheeks and lips where kids can apply blush, eyeshadow and lipstick. They can be purchased inexpensively at most beauty supply stores. Make sure girls use water-soluble makeup so the products will wash off easily when the kids are done playing.
Paper Application
Paper worksheets are often used at beauty schools as a template for students to practice makeup application. You can print these worksheets online for free and give them to little girls to try their hand at beautifying the face on the page. These sheets can be printed en masse so you have plenty to go around, and girls can try as many outrageous makeup combinations as they like without dirtying their own face.
Face Application
Let the girls try out their favorite creations on their own faces and on each other. You can purchase inexpensive lipsticks, eyeshadows and full makeup kits at your local dollar store. Girls can try to replicate the designs they made while practicing. Make sure to have plenty of baby wipes on hand to remove the makeup once the girls are finished.
