Small Parachute Games

Have you ever jumped out of plane? That question is enough to pique people&'s interest when it comes to parachute games. While most parachute games involve a full size parachute and a large group of people, you can use small parachutes to engage in games with pairs of people. Because a parachute is an unusual item to have at home, you should find that even the most reluctant to participate will want to get involved.
  1. The Ocean

    • This activity is suitable for preschool children and helps them utilize their gross motor skills to manipulate an object. The game is played by putting children into pairs and giving each pair a small parachute that they hold at either end. Tell the kids that they are going to pretend the parachutes that they are holding is the ocean and they will manipulate it according to the weather report that they hear. For example, you could say, "Today I hear that there will be a soft breeze over the Pacific Ocean." Together, children must move the parachute to create a soft ripple. You can also say, "A bad thunderstorm will be crossing over the Pacific Ocean today." The children must then move the parachute strategically to create violent-looking waves.

    Paraball

    • Paraball is suitable for older children and adults who have more sophisticated levels of coordination. It forces participants not only to concentrate and execute difficult moves using their parachutes, but also to work with their partner as a team. Each pair is given a small parachute and instructed to hold both ends so that it hangs over them like a canopy. A small, soft football is placed on top of each pair&'s parachute, and they must accurately move the football according to given instructions, such as "Use the parachute to flip the football over your partner&'s head," or "Move the parachute in such a way that the football rotates around the perimeter." A point is given to teams that perform best. At the end of the game, the team with the most points wins.

    Popcorn

    • This game forces participants to concentrate and react quickly in order to win. Similar to paraball, players are divided into pairs, holding the parachutes above them like a canopy. A third person kneels underneath the canopy of the parachute. Two or three soft foam balls are placed on top of each parachute, and the person kneeling must hit the balls upwards until they fall out of the parachute, like popping kernels of corn. The two people holding up of the parachute must move it around as much as they can to catch the balls as they&'re falling down. The team with the most balls inside their parachute after five to seven minutes wins the game.
