The USA Quiz
Lizard Point&'s easy-to-use online game challenges contestants to find the state listed, using a blank U.S. map with the state borders included. Users get three chances to identify the correct state, with larger circles provided for states that are too small to click with a mouse. If the user correctly guesses the state, he earns three points. If he gets it on the second try, he is awarded two points, while a right answer on the third try is worth one point. The game continues until all 50 states are covered, awarding a maximum of 150 points for a perfect game. A running score updates after each state, and players can restart the game at any time by clicking the "Start Over" button.
Puzzled States
This game from Scholastic requires a similar skill set to the "Name the State" quiz. The game starts with an empty map of the United States with all of the state borders included. Alaska and Hawaii appear on the lower left hand corner of the map. Along the right-hand side, the player is given five puzzle pieces in the shape of random states. Her job is to place each piece over top of the correct state one at a time. When the puzzle piece is inserted, the state changes color on the map, and the game provides the player with the state nickname (e.g., New York as "The Empire State.") The piece removed from the right-hand side is replaced with another, and the game continues until all 50 pieces have been placed.
U.S.A. Georegions
This game from Sheppard Software is one of the more difficult U.S. map games online. Players start with a U.S. map with both the state borders and different geographic regions included. At the top of the map, the program asks the player to find a specific geographic region (the Appalichian Highlands, for example). A correct answer brings up an informative blurb about the area on the left-hand side of the screen. The player can click "Next Question" at the top of the map to continue. The game keeps track of overall score, percentage of correct answers and the time it takes the player to complete the exercise.
