I Spy
The I Spy game can be enjoyed by all and it doesn’t require any props. A child is chosen to be “it.” The goal of this game is for the players to guess what item the person who is “it” is thinking about. The child who is “it” must look around the room and choose an item without telling the other players the name of the item. The child then says, “I spy with my little eye an item that is…” Next the child must describe the item without giving away the name. For example, if the child spots a red fire truck, they can tell the players that the item is red and makes a lot of noise. The first child to guess the item has the job of choosing the next one. This game doesn’t involve giving away lots of prizes but kids enjoy trying to guess the items.
Penny in a Jar
Playing it requires two pennies and two jars. The game can be played in a very small amount of space. Place children about 10 feet away from the jar. Give two players a penny each. The children must walk to the jar with a penny between their knees and attempt to drop it into the jar. The first child to get the penny into the jar wins the game. There are a variety of ways to play this game. One option is to put kids into teams of two and place them in lines. The first person in line begins the game. The first team to get the most pennies into the jar wins.
Freeze Dance
The children begin this game by standing as the parent plays music from a radio, CD player, etc. Play the music for approximately 15 seconds. When the music stops, the children must stop dancing, freezing in position. The parent should watch carefully for those who don’t stop dancing when the music stops. Those caught moving must sit down. The process is repeated until only one child is standing, making him the winner.
