Cool Church Camp Games

Kids look forward to letting loose and having fun with their peers at church camp. Camp counselors can set up fun games outside on sunny days, or inside for rainy weather. Games can be neat and quiet or loud and messy. The goal is for children to have fun, get to know their fellow campers and learn some lessons about their faith.
  1. Human Knot

    • Arrange all of the kids in a circle facing each other. Each child should hold hands with other people in the circle, creating a messy knot of hands. Use a stopwatch and give them time to untangle themselves without letting go. You can encourage the kids to beat their previous time, and try the human knot again. After the game, discuss how life can sometimes seem messy and confusing like a knot, but God can untangle the confusion.

    Plate Race

    • Distribute a paper plate to each child. Then, separate the kids into teams. Use a piece of tape or another object to mark a finish line. The teams should race to the finish line by only stepping on the paper plates. All members of the team must cross the finish line and pick up all of the paper plates. At the end of the game, talk to the campers about how God has a path set out for their lives if they take the right steps.

    Oreo Slide

    • Separate the group of kids into two equal groups. The first group will participate while the other group watches. This game is just as fun to watch! Switch groups so everyone has a chance to play. Give each child an Oreo cookie and ask him or her to open it slowly so one side has cream on it. The kids can eat the part of the cookie without cream. Each child should stick the half of the Oreo with cream to the forehead. The cream will melt and the cookie will fall down the child's face. The kids should try to wiggle their faces and noses to get the cookies to fall into their mouths. No one is allowed to use his or her hands. After the game, hold a discussion on finding joy in difficult situations. It may have been hard to get the cookies into their mouths, but they found the fun in it.

    Spit in the Bucket

    • This is a gross but fun game that kids will have a ball playing. Put two buckets on chairs at one end of a room. Fill up bottles of water, or paper cups, and put them at the other end of the room. Split the kids into two teams and line them up behind the two chairs. In this race, the kids run to the water and fill their mouths. Then, they run back to the chair with the bucket and spit the water into it. Give the game a time limit so the kids will have to run fast. The kids will have a hard time running with water in their mouths and trying not to laugh or spit on their teammates. The team with the most spit in their bucket at the end wins. After playing this game, explain to the kids how they can succeed in the race of life with God on their side.
