Polar Bear Games for Children

With their ability to live comfortably in freezing conditions, seal diet and white coloring, polar bears distinguish themselves well from other bears. While polar bears may intrigue children more than some other animals, they do not make ideal companions for kids (or anyone, outside of skilled animal trainers). To satisfy their polar bear intrigue, kids can play non-dangerous games that involve faux polar bears.
  1. Polar Bear Online Games

    • Players help polar bears get their food, make it across water and race other bears when playing online Fupa games. Polar Bear Fishing requires players to dip the bear's paw into the water and to secure the best angle to grab seals. Players left-click their mouse to send the swinging paw on the hunt; for each successful catch, points are awarded depending on the size of the seals caught. To advance from level to level, players must reach the target total within the allocated time frame.

A polar bear mother waits for her offspring to join her in "Polar Bear Crossing." Using their mouse to move a floating iceberg, players catch cubs as they jump from the left iceberg. As cubs bounce on the floating iceberg, players maneuver cubs to the iceberg on the right, where their mother awaits. Players lose a life for each cub that falls into the water; the game ends when players lose all lives.

Polar bears swim for supremacy in "Polar Bear Racing," with players competing in a 10-lap competition. Players press the "Left" and Right" arrow keys to move in those respective directions, and the "Up" arrow to increase speed. Hitting the ice slows players down, as does getting caught up in sections of the ocean.

    Polar Bowler

    • Children with a love for polar bears and bowling double their fun when playing WildTangent's Polar Bowler, available as a free download for Windows XP and Vista operating systems. Players move their mouse to move and position the bear on the lane, and left-click the mouse to pull back and release the bear toward the pins. Scoring bonus points and power-ups throughout the game, players also may unlock other characters and lanes upon reaching a certain points threshold. Other WildTangent polar bear games include Polar Golfer, Polar Tubing and Snowy---The Bear's Adventure.

    Polar Derby

    • Players avoid landing on thin ice with wooden roller-skating polar bears in Gamewright's Polar Derby, recommended for ages eight and up. For every roll of the dice, players take bears that they need, either from the board's center or from opponents. Rolling "Free Skate" lets players choose any bear they like. Players taking at least one bear they need in a roll may decide whether to roll again or end their turn. Rolling colors they do not need costs players their turn and requires them to return all bears earned during the current round to the center. When no bears remain in the game's center, players add up the numbers appearing on their bears. The player with the most points wins.

    Pretend Play

    • Children may use their imagination and toys to create polar bear scenes. Recommended for ages three and up, Jakks' Animal Planet: Polar Bear Rescue lets kids explore the Arctic with an adult polar bear, cub, iceberg and action figure. Mattel's Matchbox Mega Rig Polar Bear Scare set, recommended for ages four and up, lets children capture a polar bear and includes an action figure, polar bear, ice plow, retractable capture rope, capture collar, tundra tent, net launcher and baby penguin. Parents may check sites like Amazon or eBay for the out-of-print items.
