Old-Fashioned Birthday Games for Kids

Kid's parties are packed full of all kinds of fun treats and things to do. There are tasty foods, perhaps a clown or magician and of course the party games. Its great to get all the kids involved and add the fun of competition to the party
  1. Pin the Tail on the Donkey

    • A picture of a donkey without a visible tail is ideal to pin the paper tails to.

Hang up a large donkey picture that has no tail on it, and then give all of the children a paper donkey tail with their name written on and a thumb tack through it. For younger children it may be better to use tape. Then each child in turn is blindfolded and spun around a few times then pointed in the direction of picture. Each child tries to place the tail in the right place, while still blindfolded. The child closest to the right area wins.

    Musical Chairs

    • Set up two rows of chairs back to back; start with as many chairs as there are children. Have them start from a seated position, then start some music. The children should walk around the chairs while the music plays; when it stops they must find a seat. In the first round they are all winners; for the next round remove a chair before you start the music. The child who cannot get a seat is out of the game. Continue removing a chair after each round until there is just one child left in the game.

    Bean Bag Toss

    • Create a ring on the ground perhaps with a hula hoop or draw one with chalk if possible. Each child gets to throw three beans bags, the aim being to get them into the circle. When all the kids have had a turn get them to try and throw from further away to make the game more challenging.

    Simon Says

    • Group the children together and call out directions for children to do an action such as "raise one hand" or "stand on one leg." The children must follow these directions but only if the you say "Simon says" before the direction. If the kids follow the direction without you saying Simon says they are out. The last child standing is the winner.
