Who Am I?
This online game looks like a handheld computer screen. Three columns display the different categories of rock---igneous, sedimentary and metamorphic. Beneath each are lists of some common examples of each type of rock. Click "Play" and a rock appears in the top left corner of the screen. Characteristics of this rock are listed below the photo. Players must answer the question "Who Am I?" Your child's score displays at the bottom of the screen. This game contains a considerable amount of information in an interesting and entertaining format.
Rocks and Minerals Word Search
This word search will keep children who love words busy for hours. Played online, the puzzle displays in one box, and another box listing the words to be found displays to the right of the puzzle. Clicking the mouse and dragging a line identifies words as they are found, and once highlighted in the puzzle the word disappears from the word list. When the puzzle is complete, the player can click a button to start a new game. The puzzle scrambles, changes the words and is ready for another round. If your child gets stuck, there is a "solve game" button that instantly shows all the hidden words.
Moon Rock Catch
The first level of this game is easy enough that even the youngest player can succeed. The third level challenges older players, requiring that they pay attention and be quicker. The game takes place on the moon, and your child's character floats around with a net. As moon rocks fall from the sky, your child must go back and forth to collect them before they hit the ground. In the higher levels players need to watch out for space junk and rocks that are the wrong color. Players must collect 10 rocks to win.
