Apple Tree

• Apple Tree is an interactive wall game that can be adapted to fit a variety of subjects, from science to math to spelling to vocabulary. Cut a large brown section in the shape of a tree trunk and branches out of posterboard, several sheets of construction paper or butcher paper. Cut several leaves or one large green patch out of green paper or construction paper. Adhere the paper trunk to the wall with the leaves on top. Cut several apples out of red paper and temporarily adhere them to the apple tree with tape.

  Prepare questions based on vocabulary words, scientific concepts, math problems, spelling words or fun trivia to ask the kids in turn. When a child answers the question correctly, he receives an apple from the wall. The object of the game is to strip the tree bare of apples.

Mind Reader

• Write vocabulary words, scientific concepts, answers to math questions, the names of the kids involved or answers to trivia questions on note cards, one card per answer. Post the cards on the wall with tape. Ask the kids the questions that correspond to one of the note cards (e.g., "This card describes something that is firm or compact in substance"--the correct card would be the card with "solid" written on it, or "This student won the school spelling bee this year"--the correct answer would be the card naming the child who did). The children are supposed to pick which note card holds the correct answer. When a child answers a question correctly, give her a token. Whoever ends up with the most tokens at the end wins.

Charades

• Write several concepts or objects on note cards, one concept or object per card. Affix the note cards to the wall with tape. Have each child take turns choosing a concept or object to act out. The child who correctly guesses the concept or object being acted out gets a token. The child with the most tokens at the end wins.
