Fun Team Building Activities for Kids

No matter the setting, when a group of kids have to spend time together, some may show hostile behaviors and refuse to participate with the others. As a supervisor of the children, you need to demonstrate to them that cooperation and teamwork can often work in their favor. Show them this by having them take part in some fun team building activities.
  1. Leading the Blind

    • Prepare for the game by setting up obstacles in a path that begins with a starting point and ends with a finish line. Assemble the kids into a single-file line. Tell all of them to rest their right hand on the person in front of them, except of course for the first person in line, who will lead the group. Blindfold each person in the group besides the first person in line. When you say "Go," the leader has to get the rest of the line to a destination point, communicating with them along the way so that they avoid hitting any obstacles. After the group has made it to the finish line, talk about their successes and failures. If you have time, let others take turns leading the group after you've rearranged the obstacles.

    All Aboard

    • After the group has warmed up and gotten used to each other, create a small space. You can set up the boundary points by using masking tape, a piece of rope and other materials. Tell the kids that they all must work together to fit inside the space. They can employ any methods they like, as long as no one gets hurt in the process. After the kids have successfully cooperated to fit inside the boundaries, make the space smaller. Keep diminishing the space after every successful attempt made by the kids to fit inside. The game ends whenever it becomes impossible for the kids to try and fit inside.

    Drawing Together

    • Prepare for this activity by first printing out as many copies as it takes of a simple drawn picture. Divide the group into pairs and give each team a piece of paper and a writing utensil. Give a copy of the picture to Partner A. Separate Partner B from partner A, not allowing partner B to see the picture. Partner B must take instructions from Partner A to try and draw the picture as accurately as possible. Each pair has about five minutes to complete their version of the drawing. After the team has reviewed their work, let everyone see the drawings and vote on which pair worked the best together. Have the winning team explain their methods of teamwork to the rest of the group.
