Great Games for Kids Five Years Old

Playing games seems to come with the territory of being a five-year-old. Apart from attending kindergarten, a five-year-old's day basically consists of spending time playing silly games. So whether you have a party lined up for a group of kids or if you just want to provide them with some more organized fun, you can choose from many different games perfect for that age group.
  1. Animals Outside

    • Begin the game by lining up the five-year-olds side by side. Instruct all of the players to squat down to the floor as you head to the opposite side of the play area. Call out a name of an animal and instruct the kids to make their way over to you by moving like that particular animal. For instance, if you call out "mouse," the kids can crawl; if you call out "snake," they can slither. The game helps kids stay active while reinforcing their knowledge of the animal world. To inject some competition into the game, make it a race.

    Freeze Dance

    • Begin this silly game by gathering a group of kids together inside. Turn on some music and tell the kids to dance. At a random moment, turn the music off and tell the kids to freeze. All of the children have to hold the position they held right when you turned the music off. If anyone, for instance, had her hands in the air, she must keep her hands in the air. Check to see if anyone moves for about 10 seconds, and disqualify anyone who moves. Turn the music back on and begin another round. The game ends when only one player--the winner--remains on the dance floor.

    Lion's Cub

    • Begin by picking one player out of the group to become the lion. Sit the lion down about 10 feet away from the other players. Turn her around so that she doesn't face the group and place a stuffed animal (preferably a stuffed lion) behind her so that it stands between her and the other players. Each player takes a turn trying to steal the lion's cub without getting caught by the lion, who roars when she hears someone approaching. If caught, the player becomes the new lion. The game continues for as long as you (or the kids) like.
