Funny Games to Play in Class

In the midst of teaching a lesson to your students, you may begin to wonder, "Why aren't they paying attention to me?" The reason possibly stems from students' boredom at having to sit in a desk and listen attentively. To get your classroom out of such a funk, try playing some funny games that reinvigorate their minds and bodies.
  1. Crumpled Up

    • Allow students to use their detective skills and learn more about each other with this game. To begin, give each student a piece of paper and have them write something about themselves on it. For instance, they can write a personality or physical trait such as "I like to dance" or "I have blue-green eyes." Once all the students have finished, tell them to crumple up their notes and throw them into an open space in the middle of the room. Everyone assembles around the notes. Have each student open a note and try to figure out whose note he holds by asking people questions and using their memories. The game ends when everyone has figured out all of the note writers.

    Popcorn

    • To promote teamwork amongst students, first assemble all of the players in a circle. Shout out a number and an object. The children all have to group up according to that number and try to act collectively to create that object out of their bodies. For instance, if you call out "Four. Lawnmower," all of the students have to form groups of four and use their body parts to look like a lawnmower. To ensure nobody gets left out, count all of the kids before the game and only use numbers that evenly fit into that number. After the kids get enough exercise or if you run out of ideas, end the game.

    Switch

    • Test students' memories with this fun game. Before you come to class, bring clothing items from home that players can easily slip on over their clothes, such as belts, hats, scarves and sunglasses. Divide the class into as many groups as you like of at least four players each. The first group lines up in front of the class. Turn the other groups around as the first group dons the items. The other groups face the front of the room to see who is wearing what. They then turn away from the front of the room as the first group switches the clothing items amongst themselves. After they've finished, have the class face the front of the room. Each of the groups talk among themselves to figure out what items got switched. Whichever group guesses the most switches correctly wins that round. Every group takes a turn wearing the items. The group winning the most rounds wins the game.
