Kids Classics
Hasbro issues such classic children's games as Connect 4, Operation, and Sorry! Operation came to fruition after John Spinello created it for a university project assignment in 1962. Spinello earned $500 (for handing over rights), as well as a job at the company that introduced the new game under a different name. It wasn't until the Milton Bradley Company acquired the game that they renamed it to Operation.
Other Classics
Even though Candy Land, Monopoly, The Game of Life and Twister are considered children's games, people of all ages continue to enjoy them. Since introducing it in 1949, the manufacturer has printed more than 40 million copies of Candy Land, to date. Monopoly made its debut in 1935 and remains the most popular game in the Hasbro family, having already sold 200 million copies in over 103 countries; Monopoly has also been translated and printed into 37 languages.
Animal and Character Fun
Chutes &Ladders, Elefun and Hungry Hungry Hippos are popular animal-themed games among younger children. Creators designed these games specifically to target children between 4 and 9 years of age. In addition, Hasbro has a line of games themed after popular cartoon characters, including Dora the Explorer, G.I. Joe, SpongeBob Squarepants, Star Wars, Transformers, among others. They have even incorporated these characters into such popular games as Candy Land and Monopoly.
New Additions
Scattergories and Pictureka! are among the newest games Hasbro has introduced into the market within the last couple years. In Scattergories, one person rolls a 20-sided die, each of which has a different letter. In three minutes or less, all players must answer a series of questions with answers that start with the letter that is rolled. Players throw a three-colored die in Pictureka!, after which they flip over a mission card that coordinates with the color that is rolled. Be the first to complete the mission to collect that card. Complete 10 total missions first to win the game.
