Scavenger Hunt
There's no better way of fully appreciating the nature around you than actually getting into the woods and embarking on a scavenger hunt. Before the game, scout around the area for things that you can add to a list for the hunt. Certain types of leaves, animals and insects work well with this game. Send the campers out in teams or all by their lonesome to find the things on the list. The first person or team to check off every item on the list wins the game.
American Eagle 1-2-3
For campers who are physically able to pick their peers up off the ground, this outdoor game will get your campers burning some calories. Put two to three kids from the group in the middle of the play area. Line everyone else up on one side of the area, some distance from the kids in the middle. The object of the game is for the kids on the sidelines to make it to the opposite side by running past those in the middle and trying not to get caught. The kids in the middle try to grab the kids rushing past and pick them up off the ground long enough to shout out "American Eagle, 1-2-3." If they succeed, the child they picked up becomes one of the members of the middle. This process continues until only one person---the winner---remains on the sidelines.
Lion's Cub
Younger campers will surely enjoy this game of suspense. Pick a player out of the group to become the lion, who sits at least 10 feet away from the rest of the group with her back facing them. Place a stuffed lion---the lion's cub---between the lion and the rest of the group. One by one, each camper must try to steal the lion's cub without the lion hearing him. When the lion hears someone approaching behind her, she roars. If someone was indeed trying to steal her cub, that person becomes the new lion and the process continues until you're ready for a new game.
