Duck, Duck, Goose
Duck, Duck, Goose can be played with a small number of children or the entire class. In this game, one student is designated "It." The others sit in a circle, facing one another. "It" walks around the outside of the circle, touching people on the head. Each time "It" touches someone, he calls out, "Duck." Once he finds someone he would like to pick, "It" taps that person and call out, "Goose." That person gets up and chases "It" around the circle, trying to catch him before he takes the goose's seat. If he's successful, "It" sits in the center of the circle and the goose becomes "It."
Hide and Seek
In this game, one student is designated "It." He covers his eyes and counts, usually to 50 or 100. Meanwhile, the other players seek out hiding spots. After "It" finishes counting, he tries to find the others. They make a run for the designated home base without being caught by "It." The first child caught becomes "It" for the next round.
Red Light/Green Light
"It" stands in front of the other players. With her back turned to them, she calls out, "Green light!" The others then advance and try to touch "It." At any time, "It" can turn around again and yell, "Red light!" When that happens, the others have to freeze in place until "It" turns turns around again and calls out, "Green light!" Anyone caught moving after "It" calls "Red light!' must return to the designated starting line. The first person to touch "It" becomes the new "It."
Tag
Tag is a classic playground game that is similar to Hide and Seek, with a few exceptions. One child becomes "It" and must try to catch someone else. The others run around frantically, avoiding "It." If "It" catches another player, he shouts out, "Tag!" The person who was caught becomes "It."
Red Rover
Red Rover involves two teams. The teams stand on opposite sides of the playground and teammates hold hands with one another. Upon their turn, the teams shout out, "Red Rover, Red Rover, send (One child's name) on over!" That child must run to the other side and try to break through the hands being held. If the child breaks through, he gets to pick someone from that team to join his team. If he can't break through, he must join that team. The game continues until one team has all the players on it.
