Outdoor Winter Games
Snow and ice are two elements of winter that allow for special winter games that can't be played in other seasons. Ice hockey is one example. An old-fashioned snowball fight is another fun game boys are likely to enjoy. Each team can build a snow fort and pile up ammunition in preparation for the battle. Or they might like to play a game of snow tag where a player is "out" when another hits him with a snowball.
Outdoor Summer Games
Summer is a great time to play water games because most boys won't mind getting a little wet when it's hot outside. Water balloon toss is always fun; the goal can be to get the other team wet, or to keep the balloon from popping for as long as possible. For another fun water game, boys can use a rubber slingshot to launch water balloons and see who can shoot them the farthest.
Any kind of game with a ball is good in summer; either a football or a baseball, or even a golf ball. A Frisbee is another great game. Boys can throw it back and forth or try to make goals with it by aiming it for a target, or boys can play a modified form of football called Ultimate Frisbee.
Summer is also a good time to play games at night. The dark can put a different twist on tag or hide-and-seek. Flashlights can be used for light tag where an opponent is "out" when a member of the other team shines a light on him. Boys may also like to play capture the flag, substituting a flashlight or another light source for the flag.
Gym or Field Games
Relay games are great if you have a gym or an open field where you can play. There are several types of relay games. Players can line up and race back and forth, either as fast as they can, or over an obstacle course. Players can use an unusual method of locomotion, such as crawling or doing somersaults, or in pairs by leap-frogging each other or running a three-legged relay. Players can line up in two lines, opposite each other, and each pair can toss, throw or pass something between them, such as a ball or an egg, and whoever avoids dropping it the longest is the winner. A relay can also be done in a line, where each boy does a task in turn and the last one runs around to the beginning of the line, and several lines of boys compete to see which is the fastest. They might pass a ball or balloon between their legs or a teammate might leapfrog over each member or crawl between their legs. Another gym game that boys might like to play is dodgeball.
Online and Video Games
Boys like online games packed with action like sports games or fighting and shooting games. Games where boys can go on a quest or work toward a goal are also good choices. Multiplayer role-playing games, such as "Runescape" and "World of Warcraft," are popular with many boys. Games featuring characters from movies and TV shows are another good choice, since boys may be familiar with the characters.
