Activities & Games for Older Kids at Daycare

Daycare is not only a place for kids to go to when their parents are at work but it is also a place for fun and learning. Older kids who have to be in daycare may become bored and unhappy if they do not stay busy. You can keep older kids at daycare occupied by planning activities and games that suit their age.
  1. Puzzle Treasure Hunt

    • Older kids love to go on treasure hunts. Make it more interesting by hiding puzzle pieces. First, put the puzzle together, and write the clue to where the treasure is on the back of the puzzle. Take the puzzle apart, and hide the pieces. You can hide the puzzle pieces as they are, or you can put them in different colored plastic eggs and hide the eggs. Once all of the kids have found the puzzle pieces, have them put the puzzle together and then flip the puzzle over to reveal the treasure clue.

    Paper Tissue Flowers

    • Kids will spend hours creating the perfect flower bouquet. All you need are facial tissues, scissors and thread or string. Take a tissue, and fold it back and forth, creating the shape of a fan. Add smaller flowers by cutting the folded tissue into two pieces, and place the pieces on top of each other. Use thread or string to tie it together in the middle. Fluff it into a flower shape by separating the tissue layers.

    Putting Things In Order

    • Group several objects on a table, making sure that each item in a group is different in size, color and weight. You can use crayons, markers, stones, sticks or coins. Ask the kids to put the objects in order according to size, weight or color. This is a great way to keep older kids busy and teach them concepts such as density, mass and volume.
