Bowling With Socks
Roll socks into balls. Arrange empty cereal boxes, vertical shoe boxes, rinsed and dried milk cartons or empty paper-towel rolls at the end of a hallway. Use the rolled-up socks as bowling balls to try to knock down the targets.
Fill the Gap
Cut out various pictures of objects. Glue these on card stock and write the incomplete spellings of the objects. Have the children complete the spellings of the words.
Find the Missing Pictures
Print duplicates of several pictures. Cut one of each picture into 4 pieces. Keep a set of intact pictures and hide the other pieces around the room. Ask the children to find the pieces and reassemble the cut pictures to match the intact pictures.
Guessing Game
Put several objects such as a hard-boiled egg, an unwrapped bar of soap and sandpaper in a box that has a hole cut in the top. Have the children reach into the box and guess what the objects are by the objects' textures.
Traveler's Alphabet
Get a map or globe of the world. The first child asks another child where he is going. The second child answers with the name of a state or country that begins with "A". The first child then asks, "What are you going to do there?" The second one answers, "I am going to..." and uses a verb beginning with "A". This goes alphabetically around the group until "Z" is reached. You might want to find a list of verbs to keep the game going or have a dictionary and thesaurus available for reference.
Statues
Play music. The children dance to the music until you say "Freeze" and stop the music. Anyone who moves after this command is out.
