Miss Manners Games for Kids

Miss Manners, or Judith Martin, has been writing an advice column sharing proper etiquette with others since 1978. However, her edicts aren't often well-known by many children and sometimes some adults. Fun, interactive games, though, can encourage children to use etiquette skills and reinforce respect and good manners.
  1. Etiquette Charades

    • Read examples of letters from Miss Manners' column, which is syndicated in many newspapers around the country. Play etiquette charades where each child acts out a bad behavior and the other children have to guess what it is. Once the bad manner has been guessed, think about what Miss Manners would suggest for solving the incorrect etiquette.

    Please and Thank You

    • Write the word "please" on several cards and the words "thank you" on several others. Mix the cards up, and then hand out to children without letting them see what is written on them. While sitting in a circle, each child takes a turn. He has 30 seconds to read his card and explain a situation in which the word is appropriate to use. Children must use their listening skills by not repeating what has been said before.

    Imaginary Dinner Party

    • Etiquette involves knowing the proper way to sit at the table during meals and how to use various utensils. Set up a pretend play area with a table and various items such as a tablecloth, napkins, plates, silverware, bowls and platters. Spend time with the children, pretending they are having a special dinner party. Set the table, and use proper etiquette while enjoying some imaginary play.

    Being Miss Manners

    • Miss Manners answers lots of etiquette questions sharing the proper way to do lots of things. Write several potential questions dealing with bad behavior that might be asked of Miss Manners. The children can pretend to be Miss Manners and write answers to the etiquette questions. After the kids have written their responses, they can take turns sharing their answers and vote on whose was the best solution.
