Hospital Games for Kids

Children learn through role-playing and experimenting with different concepts and life situations. The hospital is a scary but also interesting place for children. Using games and pretend play can ease their fears as children learn more about the hospital and what happens there.
  1. Dramatic Play

    • Create a pretend play hospital for children to use. A cot or sleeping bag can be transformed into a hospital bed and plastic bowls into medicine containers and dispensers. Use gauze, bandages, play stethoscopes and thermometers for extra fun. Let children take turns being sick while the others help treat the sick patient.

    Doctor, Doctor!

    • Doctors in hospitals are busy people having to help many sick patients during the day. Part of being a doctor is also helping solve medical mysteries so people can feel better. Each child can think up an ailment she wants the doctor to fix. One of the children plays the doctor and has to guess what is wrong with each child. See which child doctor can guess everyone's ailments the quickest.

    First Aid Kit

    • A first aid kit is part of a hospital room and should also be part of your classroom or home. Get out the first aid kit and look at all the items included. Do you know what each item is for? Take turns guessing what the unknown items are and what they would be used for in the hospital.

    Emergency Room

    • Sometimes people need to get to an emergency room quickly. Patients are pushed through hallways on gurneys, or beds on wheels. They must be navigated safely through long hallways without running into walls or others. Groups of nurses and doctors work together to help the gurney carrying the patient reach the emergency room. Children can take turns working together getting a stuffed animal or doll to the emergency room on a pretend gurney made from a blanket. Each child takes a corner of the blanket that is holding the patient. They must all move and work together to get the patient safely to the emergency room.
