Interactive Geometry Games for Kids

Educational games are always a great way to inspire kids to learn, while still keeping them entertained. Since geometry is a subject that relies heavily on visual images and skills, interactive games can be useful tools in helping kids improve their knowledge and understanding of geometry concepts.
  1. Assemble the Square

    • In this flash game, players must put together different shapes in order to form a square. The game starts by breaking apart a grid-like square into various pieces, which players then drag back onto the grid in order to recreate the square. While the game seems like it would be simple at first, it can take several tries to put the pieces in the right place so they will all fit together. The game can be found at the Apples4theteacher.com web site.

    Tangrams

    • Playing this game will help students gain an understanding of different shapes and how they can be manipulated to create new shapes. Players must use spatial reasoning to rotate and move four small shapes around with their mouse until they can be fit together to make the larger shape outlined on the screen. A timer counts down as players progress through the different stages of the game, which have the same smaller shapes, but different outlines, for players to complete. This game can be found at the Math Playground.

    Alien Angles

    • Players must rescue lost aliens in this angle estimating game. The game will present players with a specific angle (i.e. 107 degrees), and players must drag a bar to increase the angle on the screen until they think it is close to the angle specified. When they are satisfied with their guess, clicking the "Check It" button will make the alien appear, and a rocket ship will shoot out from the angle they have created. If they are correct within five degrees, then the alien will be saved. This game can be played at Math Playground as well.

    Baseball Geometry

    • These interactive games provide students with a wide array of activities to learn about different types of angles in reward for opportunities in a baseball game. The games include identifying, measuring and classifying, as well as labeling angles. Players enter their name and choose a player, and then are presented with flash card type images to help them learn the information. After players feel they know the information well enough, they click the "Play" button to enter a baseball game. Players are up to bat, and in order to earn one, two, or three chances to hit the ball, they must correctly answer a multiple choice question regarding the information they just learned.
