Instructions on How to Make Bean Bags

Bean bags are easy to make at home, using any pattern or color of sturdy cloth and any type of dried beans. As long as the bean bags don't have holes, they are a safe toy for most children to use to play catch, to pass to each other in relay races and for many other games. Children can help with the bags by adding the beans.

Things You'll Need

Fabric
Scissors
Ruler
Straight pins
Sewing machine
Dried beans

Instructions

  Measure and cut out 4-by-4-inch squares from the fabric. You need two squares per bean bag.

  Pin the edges of two squares together, pattern sides facing. The back of the fabric should face out. Place the pins half an inch away from the edge of the fabric.

  Sew the two squares together, following the pins. On one side, leave an opening 2 or 3 inches long.

  Reach your finger into the hole and grab the fabric from the inside. Pull the fabric through the hole to pull it right side out.

  Pour beans in the bean bag. Make it as full or as loose as you want.

  Sew the opening closed by hand.
