Glow in the Dark Activities

Glow in the dark activities can be fascinating for children. Plus, they allow people to play many favorite daytime activities in the dark. From sports to quieter activities like artwork, glow in the dark adds a fun twist to many fun pastimes. They're great for when the power goes out, too.
  1. Egg Hunt

    • Kids can hunt for eggs, or anything else, in this game. As in a traditional Easter egg hunt, hide objects around the yard. Paint them with glow in the dark paint, or choose objects that glow on their own. Kids will have a great time trying to spot the glowing colors.

    Poi Spinning

    • Poi spinning is a traditional pastime of New Zealand's Maori people, according to JugglingWorld.com. Like fire dancers, poi spinners twirl glowing balls suspended from long chords. As the balls whirl through the air in circles, they look like glowing streaks of color.

    Volleyball

    • By painting a volleyball with glow in the dark paint, you can play volleyball in the dark. Or, play dodge ball, which is great for both younger kids and adults. Just make sure that everyone can see the other equipment, such as a net, too. A white net, or a net painted with glow in the dark paint, will be most visible.

    Frisbee

    • With a glow in the dark Frisbee, you can play many games such as Frisbee golf, in which players try to aim the disc toward specific targets. College students enjoy playing this game as much as younger kids.

    Painting

    • Painting with glow in the dark paint adds an interesting twist to traditional painting. Kids especially enjoy this activity. Create a large collaborative mural if you like, as Family Fun suggests, or paint shirts. Lay down plenty of newspaper or cloths beforehand. Face painting with glow in the dark paint is also great fun. Just be sure the paint is safe to use on the face.

    Temporary Painting

    • As described on EducationWorld.com, help kids to "paint" messages or drawings on their shirts with petroleum jelly. When you turn on a black light, the hidden messages will appear.

    Hide and Seek

    • As in the egg hunt, players each hold or wear a glow in the dark object, such as a necklace or glow stick, making hiding in the dark more challenging. "It" also carries or wears a glowing object.

    Tag

    • Similarly, in a large open space, players can play tag or freeze tag while wearing glowing necklaces. With a little creativity, you could adapt many other games to become fun glow in the dark activities as well.
