Interactive Games for 6-9 Year Olds

Whether you're looking for classroom games or games to play at a party, these unique games are sure to captivate kids in the 6- to 9-year-old range. Some games are played in teams, and others pit individuals against the group. Either way, when the goal is to have fun; everyone's a winner.
  1. Magic Carpet

    • This game involves speed, strategy and teamwork. Divide children into groups and give each group a shower curtain to stand on. Inform the children this is their magic carpet and they're flying high in the sky. They must flip over the carpet without falling off of it. The fastest team to do this, without losing any team members, wins.

Don't Get Caught in the Web

    • Set up the game by running a ball of string over, around and through objects in a room. Vary the height of the string and space between the strands of the web. Children must go from one side of the room to the other without touching the web. One child may be the spider, who forces kids to go a different way or get tagged and be out.

    Popcorn

    • This game involves a play parachute (no strings) with a hole in the center and several plastic balls, one for each player. The balls and children are numbered so each child has a ball. All balls are placed on the parachute while children hold onto the edges. Children shake the parachute up and down to get the balls to fall through the hole in the center. The child whose ball stayed on the parachute the longest wins.

    Lion's Cub

    • One player is chosen to be the lion and sits with his back to the other children. Place a stuffed lion behind his back to be the lion cub. Other players take turns trying to steal the cub as quietly as possible. If the lion hears a sound he turns and roars. If he catches a child sneaking up that child is now the lion. If there's no child sneaking up, he's still the lion.

    Walk the Plank

    • Set up this course depending on the skill of the players. Lay three boards in a straight line or zig-zagging. Players may navigate blindfolded for an extra challenge. Players go one at a time down the boards to a bucket full of handkerchiefs, remove a handkerchief and then race back to the beginning of the boards. If the player steps off the board, he has to start over. Race for the fastest time, or set up two courses and race in teams, relay style.
