ABC Review Games

Games are a fun exciting way to help children grasp new concepts as well as to reinforce what they've learned. There are variety of games to choose from to help a child review their ABCs. Whether you are looking for a board game, an interactive online game or an interactive DVD game, there are options out there for you to help your child succeed in mastering a crucial part of early language concepts.
  1. Dr. Seuss Super Stretchy ABC

    • A fun game from I Can Do That! Games, this activity has children ages 3 and up twisting and turning on a stretchy play mat as they practice their letter recognition with Thing 1 and Thing 2. While reviewing their ABCs, children playing Super Stretchy ABC are also introduced to beginner word-building skills and work on their fine and gross motor skills. The game, a Parents' Choice Recommendation for fall 2009, is available for purchase at retailers such as Toys R Us and Target.

    Super WHY! ABC Game

    • In this board game, children get to take on the role of the SuperWHY! team and practice not only their recognition of the alphabet, but rhyming and other skills as well. The game, based on the popular PBS kids cartoon show SuperWHY!, is designed for children ages 3 and up. The ABC game is available for purchase from PBS as well as numerous retailers such as Walmart and Amazon.com.

    Alphabet Bingo

    • A simple twist on a classic game, Alphabet Bingo helps children review their ABCs with colorful cards containing letters and corresponding pictures. The children match up the letters called out to the ones on their cards in hopes of being the first to get a bingo. An Alphabet Bingo game could be fashioned quickly and easily at home or purchased from a retailer like Learning Resources.

    Starfall ABCs

    • At Starfall there are video clips featuring each letter of the alphabet that help to reinforce letter recognition and the sounds they make. After each presentation, Starfall provides children with a short game to reinforce their grasp of the letter of the ABCs they just reviewed. There is no cost to play the letter games on Starfall, and they even provide accompanying work sheets for each of the letters of the alphabet.

    The Big Surprise!

    • This interactive DVD game, designed for children who are not hearing-impaired, helps those learning their ABCs and introduces the manual alphabet (sign language) to them as they review the traditional alphabet. The DVD takes children to a variety of locations where it will test their knowledge on the letters while singing and having fun.
