Christian Youth Activity Games

Church and Sunday School don't have to be boring events that young people dread. Bible lessons and stories can be fun and interesting with the right games and activities. Whether you lead a group of younger or older children or even teens, various options can be found online and at specialty stores to help you prepare lessons that will be appreciated.
  1. Bombs Away

    • Bombs Away is as much a lesson of faith and trust as it is a game. Before you begin, tape off an area 4 feet by 20 feet in the middle of the room. Grab six or seven pieces of construction paper and scatter them inside the marked area. To start, break the group into two teams and have each team pick a guide. Guides are responsible for directing blindfolded teammates down the 4- by 20-foot corridor without touching them. Players must walk the entire length of the space and return to the start without stepping on the taped boundary lines or any of the construction paper "bombs." Use a stopwatch to record every person's time. The group with the best time and fewest penalties wins. For added fun, when a player steps on a boundary line or bomb, hit a wooden spoon on a pot to replicate the loud noise of a bomb exploding.

    The 10 Plagues

    • As popular as The Ten Commandments are for Christians, it's also important to learn about the 10 plagues that struck the ancient Egyptians in Exodus. Teach your teens and pre-teens about these historical events with this card game. Divide the class into teams of three to five people. Hand out 10 pieces of paper or card stock to each team. The next step is up to you. Either tell the students about the 10 plagues or supply each team with a Bible and specific books and/or verses and instruct them to find the 10 plagues. Ask teams to put the plagues in order of when they took place, then simultaneously tape their cards to the wall or chalkboard in order and present their findings to the group. The team with all the plagues in the correct order wins. If a tie occurs, ask the teams to talk about the circumstances of each plague in detail until someone misspeaks.

    Bible Charades

    • Bible Charades is a twist on the traditional game of Charades. This game is particularly useful and exciting for ages that need to be constantly on the move. To begin, select one person to be facilitator. This person will not play but will be responsible for time keeping, keeping score and resolving disagreements. Divide the group into two teams of at least three people and decide on a time limit for each round of play. Each team receives several pieces of paper, a pen and a bowl and writes biblical phrases, book titles, songs and more on the slips. Teams drop their suggestions into the bowls, then trade bowls with another team. Players act out a phrase, title or song chosen by the opposing team. Teams try to guess the titles acted out by their teammates. The team with the most points at the end wins.
