Interactive Children's Games

Interactive children̵7;s games are important tools both educationally and socially. In the classroom they make learning fun. Socially, the interactive games help children connect with other children and situations in the world. Interactive children̵7;s games tend to grab a child̵7;s attention as they manipulate pieces and situations and solve problems.
  1. Interactive Party Games

    • Interactive games allow guests the freedom to mingle with each other and explore their creativity all in the name of winning. Shy children get to meet other children as they work together on teams, striving for the same goal. Some popular interactive children̵7;s games that have stood the test of time include scavenger hunts, relay games and dance party. In a scavenger hunt, the children are divided up into teams. Each team is given a list of items to find, and whichever team finds all the items first wins. In relay races, the children divide into teams to race against each other while passing items from one teammate to another without using their hands. For example, they might have to pass a marshmallow to each other using spoons. In the dance party interactive game, children learn some basic dance moves like spinning or shaking their hips. Each move gets a number. One child acts as a director and holds up numbers while a song is playing and the children do their best to make the moves that correlate with the number.

    Interactive Educational Games

    • Teachers find that interactive educational games are greatly beneficial in a classroom setting because they reach a broader range of learning styles and promote quick thinking and student cooperation. Some popular interactive educational children̵7;s games are Silence and Sparkle. In the game of silence, students line themselves up, without speaking, in a specific order the teacher assigns. When working with decimals the teacher might give each child a note card with a decimal number on it then have the students line up from smallest to greatest. When teaching state capitals, the teacher might divide the class into two groups. Half the group gets note cards depicting states and the other half get cards with capitals on it then they have to match the states to the capitals. In Sparkle, students review their spelling words while standing in a line. The teacher names a word to spell and the first person in line says a letter. When the last letter is called, the student turns to the next student and says, ̶0;Sparkle.̶1; That student must sit down. If a student says a wrong letter, the child must sit down and the next person continues the spelling. The game ends when one student is left standing.

    Interactive Computer and Video Games

    • According to a study sourced by the National Library of Medicine, a training program linking interactive video games to cycle exercise yields greater improvements in health-related physical fitness than what is seen after traditional cycle exercise training. In addition to health benefits, video games also can stimulate the brain. Websites such as ABCya.com offer links to free interactive computer games based on a child̵7;s age level.
