Halloween Party Games for a 4 Year Old

When you're planning a Halloween party for a group of four-year-olds, build some activity into the games they play at the beginning of the festivities. Races or relays will help them let off some steam. Later on, encourage them to play quieter games before you send them home with all of the prizes they've won.
  1. Eyeball Game

    • Make eyeballs by painting black pupils on ping-pong balls with markers. Give each child a container filled with eyeballs, a teaspoon and an empty container. The children must use the spoon, not their hands, to transfer the eyeballs from one container to the other. The child who transfers the most eyeballs in one minute is the winner. As an alternative, fill the containers with candy corn, popcorn or cotton balls rather than eyeballs.

    Walk the Line

    • Make teams of party guests with three to four children on a team. Using masking tape, mark a straight line on the floor for each team. One at a time, the team players walk the line backwards. When they reach the end, they turn around and walk backwards to the beginning. The first team to finish is the winner.

    Balloon Race

    • Before the party, outline a course for the race. If the party is being held inside, use masking tape to mark the course on the floor. If it's an outdoor party, spray-paint the course on the grass. Make teams of party guests with three to four children on a team. Give each team a balloon and a paper plate. One player from each team walks the course, balancing the balloon on the paper plate. When each player reaches the beginning of the course again, he passes the balloon to the next player on his team. The first team to finish is the winner.

Substitute a broom for the paper plates and have the players "sweep" the balloon along the course.

Pin the Grin on the Pumpkin

    • Before the party, cut a circle of orange felt measuring 12 to 16 inches in diameter. Cut two yellow felt triangles for eyes and glue them to the orange circle. Cut a black felt "grin" for each party guest. Glue or sew a small piece of the gripper portion of hook-and-loop tape to one side of each grin. At the party, blindfold each guest in turn, spin him around a few times and let him attempt to pin the grin on the pumpkin. The player who gets her grin closest to the appropriate spot on the orange circle is the winner.
