Games & Activities to Play at a Girls' Sleepover

Whether you're a parent or a children's group activity planner, having a fun-filled sleepover for girls can be a wonderful way to enrich their lives. Sleepovers, or slumber parties, are overnight parties where children and even teenagers can share stories and play games. It is a bonding experience that teaches girls social skills that build lasting friendships. There are endless ideas for games and activities that can be played at a sleepover for girls, from educational to whimsical.
  1. Board Games & Puzzles

    • All age groups can come to enjoy classic board games such as Monopoly, Operation and the game of Life. Parents and activities organizers can also instruct the girls to create their own custom board game or puzzles to play. Give the girls construction paper and scissors for game cards, dice, a notebook and pens to write down brainstorming ideas and a 12" by 12" sheet of card-stock paper for the game's board. Some interesting and enjoyable themes for the custom board game can be about world travel, which is educational, or they can create a fantasy-based game with princesses and a medieval theme.

    Singing Bee

    • An entertaining spin off of the traditional spelling bee can be enjoyable for girls of all ages. Singing bees can be simple to organize and only require a "cheat-sheet" of songs and lyrics, a karaoke machine and a small expo board with which to keep score. Use the Internet to print out lyrics to popular songs from websites such as Songlyrics.com, and play a 30-second clip of each song before instructing the girls to finish some of the lyrics, individually. Each girl is to pass the microphone of the karaoke machine to the next girl after completing the lyrics. When one of the girls finishes 30 seconds of correct lyrics following the sample, write down a tally mark by her name on the expo board. Each round's winner can receive prices like candy, makeup if it is a teen slumber party, or even small trinkets.

    Makeup & Makeovers

    • Teens and pre-teens often enjoy playing with clothing, makeup and hair styling accessories as they mature and begin to discover their individual senses of style. A girls' sleepover can be an excellent opportunity to incorporate the use of makeup and fashion accessories with fun and amusing games. Have the girls play a game called No Mirror Makeover. The object of the game is to have each girl apply their own cosmetics without the use of a mirror or the help of another girl at the slumber party. Following the application of the makeup, the girls can hold a small fashion competition where prizes of candies and trinkets are given to the girls with the best and worst makeup.
