How to Make Your Own Bowling Set

A backyard bowling set can provide hours of fun and entertainment. You can easily make your own set using recycled plastic beverage containers. This is an inexpensive project for all ages that can be accomplished in less than an hour. A bowling set can encourage your family to spend more time playing outdoors. The set can be adjusted for different abilities and level of play.

Things You'll Need

10-ounce, 20-ounce or 2-liter plastic beverage containers
Sand
Funnel
Glue
Lightweight ball
Decorations: stickers, colored tissue paper, plastic grass

Instructions

  Collect 10 empty plastic beverage containers of the same size.

  Peel off the labels. Use warm water to release the glue.

  Wash the bottles out with warm water and mild dish soap.

  Dry the bottles completely. Make sure there is no moisture or sugary residue that might cause bacteria to grow inside the bottles.

  Place the funnel in the top of one bottle. Add two to three inches of sand in the bottom of the bottle.

  Use the funnel to fill all the rest of the bottles with two to three inches of sand.

  Add color to your pins by putting colored tissue paper or colored plastic grass inside of them.

  Replace the bottle caps. Add a dab of glue if you want the caps to be permanent.

  Add any additional decorations your would like, such as stickers or paint.

  Allow everything to dry before playing with the set.
